AUTO LOLA - SONATA FACTION PRESENTS: IDIOMATIC
words below by Surrealistma/Opaline

DC-based collective, Sonata Faction has banded together to have some fun on their debut release, “Idiomatic.” The six-track EP is a heartfelt, uplifting, and, above all, luminous offering from producers Black Moses, Jelani Kwesi, Pat Cain, and lead rapper-vocalist Auto Lola at the helm.

For Auto Lola, this project represents the culmination of six years of writing and producing. The single, “Leap of Faith, shows the artist “jumpin in” at his most charismatic. “Fresh til the day I die,” he warbles in a bubblegum cadence, swaddled by his collaborators’ looping, gelatin production.

“Idiomatic” denotes “expressions that are natural to the native speaker,” or “appropriate to the style of music associated with a particular period, individual, or group.” For Auto Lola, it is simply, “the definition I connected the most with.”

Backed by punchy, insistent percussion on “Wayward RM,” the artist assures, “I got a remedy / I got community.” “Idiomatic” is filled with as much pulsing bass and poppy synths as it is hope and affirmation and that’s what makes this EP undeniably loveable.

“Idiomatic” sounds like a genuine smile from a stranger or a rainbow reflecting light in a puddle after noon’s rain—unassuming, yet overwhelmingly positive. Well done, Sonata Faction.
