Nic Brown Jeremy Hyman is a member of Motion Graphics whose recently released eponymously-titled debut album was an absolute cracker and this EP isn't far off it in terms the way it bends house tropes out of shape just enough to make you sit up and take notice and Hyman's ear for a memorable melody. There's not a single misstep on "Couch" but closing number "New Edition" is the pick of the crop for me, combining machine gun hi-hat bursts with one of the strangest synth breakdowns I've ever heard, its chords bent into bluegrass-on-moonshine-shaped twangs that make it one of the most singular house tunes I've heard all year. Well fan ma brow, this is a goody. Favorite track: New Edition.
